Intel is quite a bit faster than AMD currently and runs cooler (CPU). Nvidia and AMD are about the same as of right now, but if you plan on playing games with PhysX get an Nvidia card (GPU).

Anything with 4 cores @3.0+ will work for a processor on a gaming rig.

More than enough processing power to have any GPU run perfectly.

The i5 is a great processor. What you would miss out on by not getting the i7 is a technology called hyperthreading, which without knowing much about it, essentially presents the illusion of 8 processing cores (up from 4) to the computer, increasing performance.

Like SacridFire said, you will not bottleneck any current GPU's with this processor. I do know of a good number of people that have had great success overclocking the i5, just in case you reach a point where it's not enough anymore.

As far as GPU's go, I'll stand by nVidia even though I own a Radeon GPU. The only downside to nVidia is that they are decidedly more expensive. But if you plan on using PhysX (like you find in our BL2!) then a nVidia GPU will process it, whereas with a Radeon setup your processor will take care of the PhysX.

You aren't missing anything if you don't choose an i7. There are very few programs out there that have a noticeable benefit from 8 cores.

Considering I got my PC for about a fourth of the price ($400 for me compared to your +$1500 rig) I would expect to have crappier RAM. :)

    1 British Pound Sterling equals
    1.61 US Dollar

My PC + Monitor, keyboard and mouse cost me £892, which is $1432.37.

You were almost correct with +$1500 (£934.11)
    You deserve a cookie :)

I may have misguided you. The PC rig shown at the top of the list is actually random, so you may have been looking at a different pc.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/search_results.php?sortby=&groupid=&search=Insanity - here's the search, mine is called "insanity gamer". You cant miss it, it's the only one with a rating.

I also got it cheaper because i ordered it in a sale which ended monday
